it's like Christmas!

The joy of taking finished pieces from the kiln is a lot like getting gifts at Christmas. And, of course, when I originally posted this, it nearly was Christmas.

time must be made

I have ever suffered from an almost pathological difficulty with (for lack of a better term) personal time management. I don't mean that so much in the sense of "oh, I wish I could be more organized." I mean it in the sense of "I can hardly hold a thought in my head for more than 20 seconds at a time." It's that serious at times. Adult Attention Deficit or ADHD or whatever you want to call it, it has plagued my entire adult life. I don't recall what my childhood was like in this regard, though I did have some difficulties with reading at various times in school.

For many years I simply assumed it was related to the perfectionism I tend to suffer from; but in recent years it's seemed more like a pathology than a personality trait or bad habit.

Anyway, it makes pursuit of any long-term goals (like becoming a competent potter, or a master of any skill or trade--- rather than just a dilettante--- extremely difficult. The intentions are there, but my follow-through is abysmal. I often say that if I had the money, I'd hire a personal assistant to keep me on track. We'd go over my goals for, say, the coming month, and that person would keep me on task every waking minute.

Look for this planter finished in a later post:
