Latest from fire

Here are the last pieces I completed in Chico, back from final firing. The mugs and small, fully-glazed plates will go toward my brother's order; the others will stay with my sister. Not a bad looking bunch.

Into the fire

Well, this may be the last of my pieces going into the fire in Chico. At least for the foreseeable future. The dip platter at the back of this group is going in for bisque, but the rest are glazed (all with Robin's Egg) and ready for cone 5.

Last mug

Hmm. I wanted to try a beefier handle for this one, and indeed succeeded. Not exactly what I envisioned, but interesting. Again a bit too dry on the mug before attaching the handle, though I took a hint from the owner of the local pottery studio/store and put them both under a cover so they'd tend to dry at a similar rate and perhaps share their moisture content. Not seen in this view, the handle has a sort of spinal ridge to it, running along the center of outside of the handle. I've yet to decide if I like the feel of the grip.

Super bowl

My first finished pieces made in Chico!

All three pieces are sporting a lovely Robin's Egg glaze by Laguna. It's a delightful turquoise-y sort of blue with flecks of colorful surprise.

The mugs are delightful! I love the contrast of glazed and raw surfaces, especially with this clay. Delightful!

What to do with greenware you don't intend to fire?

I know! Smash it!

3rd time's the charm?

Another go at the integral dip platter. This time I was able to avoid fatally wiring the thing.
Speckled Buff, cone 5, wet, just over 10" diameter.
